Witton Lofts is the recipient of the 2013 City of Hamilton Urban Design Award of Excellence for Adaptive Reuse. The redevelopment of the former 1920’s school was completed in 2013 by Core Urban Inc. with the help of Lintack Architects. Three stories of all glass units were added to the original three story school to provide 36 condos. Formerly McIlwraith Public School, the original building was designed by William Palmer Witton.
Suites (775 - 1,450 sq ft)
Suites at Witton Lofts are true loft-style units, typically offering 1-bedroom, 1-bedroom + den and some 2-bedroom layouts, with sizes generally ranging from 775 sq ft up to 1,450 sq ft. Units feature exposed brick walls, wood beams, high ceilings and large industrial-style windows, along with open-concept layouts. Interiors often vary by unit depending on renovations, blending industrial character with modern updates.
Amenities
As a boutique loft building, Witton Lofts offers a more limited but practical set of amenities. Residents benefit from secure entry, onsite parking (surface or garage) and a rooftop terrace with sweepy cityscape views and overlooking Burlington Bay and Hamilton Harbour. The focus is on the uniqueness of the suites rather than extensive shared amenities.
Fees Include ($379 - $710 per month)
Location
Located on Murray Street West just off James Street North, the building is in one of Hamilton’s most energetic and rapidly evolving neighbourhoods. Residents are steps from restaurants, cafés, galleries, boutiques and nightlife, as well as close to the West Harbour GO Station. The waterfront, parks and trails are also nearby, and access to Highway 403 and QEW is convenient.
